There is much interest in enabling smart city applications, where an infrastructure of low-power sensors can estimate traffic flow, track parking usage, and detect speeding instances. However, there is a major challenge: deploying sensors at the scale of a city population requires a long time and substantial investment.

Our goal is to build systems and sensors that allow vehicles and existing infrastructure communicate and sense each other. Such system allows cities to deliver smart services, such as smart parking, traffic monitoring, speed detection, and tracking and locating first responders.
